Icomera launches the world’s first rail-certified 5G router with Telit

Icomera, a world-leading provider of connectivity solutions for public transport, sought to launch the world's first rail-certified 5G router. Their challenge was to develop a router with 5G radio modems that could also deliver reliable 4G LTE fallback in areas where 5G was not yet available. To achieve this, Icomera partnered with vendor Telit and used its Telit FN980 data cards.

The solution implemented by Telit provided the necessary 5G connectivity and multi-region functionality. This helped Icomera create the X5 router, which leverages the Telit modems and proprietary technology to aggregate cellular capacity. In a trial, the solution achieved record-breaking throughput, surpassing the industry "Gigabit Train" benchmark. This provides a simple, cost-effective platform for passenger Wi-Fi, entertainment, telematics and surveillance, improving operational efficiency and passenger satisfaction.
