The franchisor Crest Foods, Inc. faced the challenge of preventing food spoilage and maintaining critical quality standards for the Nestlé Toll House Café by Chip brand. Human-based monitoring of refrigeration units was error-prone and insufficient. To ensure product freshness and customer safety, Crest Foods partnered with vendor Telit to test a cold-chain monitoring solution from R9 Technology.

The solution implemented used R9 Technology's Picogate IoT gateway, built with a Telit LE866A1-NA cellular module, Telit IoT Connectivity, and the Telit deviceWISE IoT Platform. This system wirelessly monitors refrigeration temperatures and sends data to a cloud dashboard. The results provide immediate alerts for equipment failures, auditable quality records, and simplified deployment without Wi-Fi issues, driving confidence in the brand and supporting business growth.
