Case Study: Boatrax achieves real-time boat tracking and predictive maintenance with Telit IoT solutions

A Telit Case Study

Boatrax launches boat monitoring in October 2018 with Telit

Boatrax, a Miami-based vessel tracking company, sought to create a simple, plug-and-play IoT solution for boat monitoring to enable boat sharing and provide owners with peace of mind. Their challenge was to develop a rugged, marine-ready device that could collect and transmit data reliably, without needing complex custom engineering. They partnered with vendor Telit Cinterion for key components of their end-to-end solution.

The solution utilized the Telit Cinterion xE910 cellular module for robust, globally adaptable connectivity and integrated Telit Cinterion’s deviceWISE IoT Platform for data collection and device management. The platform fed vessel data to IBM Watson for predictive maintenance analytics. This allowed Boatrax to launch their product quickly, focusing on their core offering. The result was a system that gives owners real-time tracking and mechanical condition monitoring, increasing boat uptime and revenue potential in sharing economies.
