Case Study: Aidon frees smart meters from mobile operator lock-in with Telit Cinterion eSIM solution

A Telit Case Study

Aidon enables 15-minute smart meter readings with Telit

Aidon, a leading smart metering provider in Northern Europe, faced the challenge of mobile operator lock-in for its utility customers, which led to unreliable smart meter connectivity and high costs to switch networks. They partnered with vendor Telit Cinterion to overcome this, leveraging an eSIM solution built with Telit Cinterion's EXS62 module and SIM provisioning services.

The solution implemented by Telit Cinterion provided an industry-first eSIM system for smart meters, enabling over-the-air operator profile changes. This freed utilities from operator lock-in, allowing them to choose or switch networks for better coverage or tariffs. The results included a successful commercial debut with Elenia in Finland, future-proofed meters compatible with new GSMA standards, and an enhanced ability for Aidon to meet stringent service-level agreements for data readings.
