O2 Czech Republic, the country’s largest integrated telecommunications provider serving over 8 million subscribers, needed to rapidly scale international capacity and increase network diversity to handle explosive growth from 4G/LTE, video streaming and a booming tech sector — while keeping the solution simple. After evaluating carriers, O2 selected Telia Carrier for its 100G-enabled global backbone and ability to offer single‑port 100G connectivity rather than leased, layered networks.

Telia Carrier upgraded O2’s existing links (moving from 2 x 10G to 100G ports) and delivered one‑hop 100G connectivity across its backbone; the cutover took under a day with no service interruption. As a result O2 now manages over 0.5 Tbit/s of peering capacity primarily on 100G ports, simplifies traffic engineering and routing (switching from 5 x 10G to a 100G port once traffic exceeds 50G), and gains the scalability, diversity and cost competitiveness it sought — all enabled by Telia Carrier.
