A Telestream Case Study

Remote Digital Media LiveEdit™uses Pipeline for tapeless video capture and live editing

Remote Digital Media (RDM) is a New York and Los Angeles–based remote video production company that has operated tapeless workflows for years and builds custom, application-specific racks for clients. RDM was tasked by ShowCobra/IFC to deliver a LiveEdit® solution that could ingest eight channels (seven cameras + one live feed) into a 64TB SAN for immediate editing in an Apple ProRes environment, while also meeting rising demand from other clients during a tape shortage.

RDM deployed eight Telestream Pipeline HD Dual network capture systems in rack configurations (sourced with TekServe), providing real-time ingest and encoding to Apple ProRes and Avid DNxHD and enabling multiple editors to edit footage as it was captured. The setup produced large time savings and greater throughput—video was live on the Internet during events and broadcast-ready the same day—and was reused successfully for projects including Game Show Network, Fuse TV (six-channel ingest), PBS, BET and Nickelodeon, where multi-editor turnarounds were completed in hours.
