Purtle.com Brass Camp Streams Live Event with Wirecast

Purtle.com Brass Camp (PbC) is a small business that runs intensive brass workshops and in 2010 offered its first event both in person and online to reach international participants and fund guest artists. The challenge was to deliver the same high-quality, professional viewing experience to online attendees on a limited budget and crew while handling multiple audio mixes, Keynote slides/teleprompter integration, and live production elements.

PbC used Telestream Wirecast as the production hub—running on an iMac with a MacMini for Keynote, MOTU audio interfaces, a Sony HD camcorder, Desktop Presenter, Darwin Streaming Server, and a Drupal-driven site—to stream, record and produce lower thirds, transitions and other broadcast elements. The setup let one operator manage the live feed while the cameraman focused on shooting; the event ran flawlessly for two days (14 hours/day), delivered a commercial-quality viewer experience, enabled on-demand viewing and revenue generation, and was supported quickly by Telestream when needed.
