Phlearn, founded by Aaron Nace in 2011, is an online Photoshop tutorial site that needed to produce high-quality, engaging screencasts at scale. The challenge was creating professional-looking videos with great audio and a visible presenter while managing separate camera and audio sources and keeping the process streamlined to avoid costly re-records.

Aaron solved this by adopting ScreenFlow alongside a Sony NEX-5N camera, Zoom H4n recorder and lavalier mic, setting his laptop to 1280×800, and recording all devices simultaneously so clips can be synced by waveform in the editor. The result is a repeatable, efficient workflow that has delivered over 400 polished tutorials and grown Phlearn to more than 250,000 monthly viewers.
