A Telestream Case Study
Telestream helped NBC Olympics meet the massive multi-platform demands of the 2014 Sochi Winter Games. Tasked with delivering a record 1,539 hours of coverage across broadcast, cable and more than 1,000 hours on digital platforms (including concurrent clips from up to 17 events daily), NBC needed scalable file-based workflows to handle varied formats, audio configurations and captioning requirements across linked sites in Sochi and Stamford.
NBC deployed eight GPU-accelerated Telestream systems (Vantage with Lightspeed servers, plus Cinnafilm Tachyon and CaptionMaker) to orchestrate workflows, transcode and standards-convert 50i to 60i in the file domain, automate captioning, remap audio and drive Avid ingest. The result: seamless multi-platform delivery, 242.3 million media exposures, 61.8 million unique digital users, 10.8 million hours streamed (more than triple Vancouver) and major gains in TV Everywhere authentication and captioning coverage.
