Major US Television Network Chooses Episode Engine

A major U.S. television network’s Digital Media Group in Los Angeles prepares full episodes, recaps and original content for the network’s website and multiple mobile providers, encoding roughly 600 files per day. As the team grew from a single Avid operator to a Final Cut Pro workgroup, they needed a Mac-based, easy-to-manage encoding solution that allowed individual users to create and share encoding profiles, supported HD and SD and multiple formats (Flash, Windows Media, QuickTime) without third-party add-ons, and didn’t require a dedicated system administrator.

They implemented Telestream’s Episode Engine Pro with six Episode Pro clients on Apple Quad G5 workstations and a cluster of eight Xserves running Episode Engine, using shared watch folders and centrally stored encoding profiles. The system now handles about 95% of their encoding, delivering faster, lower-cost, and more consistent output that rarely needs manual checking, supports all required formats and resolutions, and contributed to an Emmy-winning Internet video delivery; the team also cites responsive vendor support.
