A Telestream Case Study
Knowledge Network is British Columbia’s commercial-free public broadcaster, reaching over 1.4 million weekly viewers across multiple channels and platforms. Facing a shift from an analog, tape-based SD operation to all-digital HD distribution and juggling program feeds from more than 30 global distributors, the network needed a reliable, automated file-based workflow to handle high volumes of mixed-format media, timecode/frame-rate conversions, captioning and multi-platform delivery.
Knowledge Network implemented Telestream’s Vantage Transcode Pro with Lightspeed acceleration and Pipeline ingest/playout systems to create DNxHD masters, low-res proxies for captioning, and automated workflows that correct timecode, frame rate and standards issues. The Vantage-based chain delivers LXF files to playout, mezzanine files to Kaltura for online distribution, and archives to LTO storage—replacing tape decks, enabling simultaneous and overnight processing, cutting capital and operating costs, improving throughput and providing redundancy and faster processing with added Lightspeed servers.
