Case Study: FOX Sports achieves near-real-time remote FIFA World Cup production with Telestream (Vantage & Lightspeed Live)

A Telestream Case Study

Preview of the Fox Sports Case Study

FOX Sports - Customer Case Study

FOX Sports faced the challenge of producing live coverage of 64 FIFA World Cup matches in Russia while keeping production centralized in its Los Angeles facilities. The operation required near-real-time editing of “growing” files (with no more than ~30 seconds delay), ingestion of dozens of HD-SDI and UHD-HDR feeds, creation of cloud HLS proxies and AVC Intra masters, and avoidance of building new on-site facilities or moving large crews — all while managing hundreds of terabytes of media over the tournament.

FOX solved this by deploying Telestream Vantage and Lightspeed Live integrated with IBM Aspera FASPStream, delivering edit-ready AVC Intra and HLS proxy streams over standard internet connections into AWS and LA production systems. Twenty-two Lightspeed Live capture units plus four high‑res Aspera streams enabled near-real-time editing (testing showed ~14 seconds behind live), reduced on-site equipment and transcoding steps, and allowed immediate downstream workflows — producing a cost-effective, scalable remote-production workflow that improved turnaround and viewer experience.
