A Telestream Case Study
CANAL+, France’s leading pay-TV operator, moved into free-to-air broadcasting in 2012 and faced a tight timeline to launch three rebranded channels across broadcast, online and mobile platforms. The project required rapid build-out of new infrastructure and an automated encoding workflow capable of producing multiple H.264 and HLS outputs plus an MPEG-2 transport stream, while removing commercials, handling rights-based replacements and inserting logos/ratings — all with frame-accurate control.
CANAL+ implemented Telestream’s Vantage platform with Lightspeed servers and Pipeline encoders, using TIFO markers and SGT automation to run 24/7 ingest and automated transcoding. The system produced single-file catch-up programs (example: same-night delivery of a daily talk show), created ~20 hours/day of VOD, and integrated with Dalet, Avid and playout servers — enabling a rapid channel launch, full multi-platform delivery and high levels of automation with minimal human intervention.
