Skype blocks 1 million fraudulent calls per day with TeleSign

Skype, a pioneer in global video chat and communication, faced a significant challenge with spam and robocalls targeting users of its virtual phone numbers. Nearly half of all inbound calls were fraudulent, which was damaging the customer experience. To address this, Skype partnered with vendor TeleSign and its Intelligence product to identify and block these unwanted calls before they reached end-users.

TeleSign implemented its Intelligence solution, which uses reputation scoring and machine learning, to act as an inbound spam filter for Skype's call traffic. The solution was a massive success, blocking approximately one million fraudulent calls per day, which represented 50% of Skype's inbound call volume. This led to a dramatic decrease in user abuse reports, an increase in legitimate call duration, and a significant rise in overall customer satisfaction.
