CBS News partnered with Telescope to enhance its 2016 Presidential and Vice Presidential Debate coverage with a more interactive, social-first viewing experience. The challenge was to bring fresh audience perspectives into live broadcast coverage by moderating and curating Instagram Stories in real time for pre-debate and post-debate programming.
Using Telescope’s Connect Live platform and Content to Air capabilities, CBS News producers pulled in Instagram Stories, reviewed them live, and pushed approved content to air during the broadcasts. Telescope’s solution helped CBS News tell the debate story in a new way, and the first debate drew a record 2.98 million streams and 1.4 million unique viewers.
