A Telescope Case Study
American Idol on Fox needed a way to manage massive fan voting across multiple channels while creating a more engaging live-viewing experience. Telescope provided the voting infrastructure using SMS/text messaging, toll-free phone voting, online voting, and native app support, along with a social visualization element tied to Facebook.
Telescope implemented a high-capacity, real-time voting platform that aggregated and verified votes from phone, text, the FOX website, FOX Now app, and Google search, while also featuring select Facebook voter avatars on-air during the broadcast. The result was a record-breaking Season 13 with more than 71 million votes in the first performance show, Facebook becoming the most popular voting method, and American Idol reaching its 6 billionth vote across the series thanks in part to the activation.
