A Teladoc Health Case Study
Prominence Health Plan, a Texas- and Nevada‑based insurer serving a largely rural southwest population, faced limited local access to care with members often driving more than an hour and relying on costly urgent care or emergency rooms. After initially launching virtual care for general medical concerns but seeing low utilization, Prominence partnered with Teladoc Health to expand telehealth (including behavioral health) and increase member engagement.
Teladoc Health implemented a $0 copay for most conditions, integrated virtual visits into Prominence’s member portal, and used proven multi-touch engagement strategies (including geofencing and mobile notifications) to drive adoption. The partnership produced a 56% utilization increase in year one and 150% by year two, delivered $472 average cost savings per visit, saved over $355K in 2018, and maintained a 97% member satisfaction rate.
