A Teladoc Health Case Study
BlueShield of California, serving a highly diverse and disaster-prone population across the state, needed to make high-quality care equally accessible and to drive virtual care use regardless of members’ location or circumstance. To meet that challenge it partnered with Teladoc Health to offer 24/7 virtual care via phone, web, and mobile and to engage diverse populations at scale.
Teladoc Health deployed a co-branded, multi-touch member engagement strategy and virtual care platform—including a customized virtual clinic after the 2018 Camp Fire—and enabled convenient, cost‑effective access to care. The results: BlueShield of California more than tripled virtual visit utilization from 2017 to 2018 (ASO 1.0% → 4.8%; FI 1.3% → 2.2%), logged over 38,000 unique users in 2018, achieved >90% member satisfaction, more than doubled claims cost savings year‑over‑year, and extended virtual care to roughly 10,000 people affected by the Camp Fire.
