University of Lethbridge prevents flooding with TEKTELIC’s 600+ LoRaWAN leak sensors

The University of Lethbridge faced recurring and costly flooding incidents in its campus residences, which caused significant property damage and operational challenges. To address this, they partnered with vendor TEKTELIC and KB Innovations to find a reliable and cost-effective IoT solution to prevent future flooding and optimize maintenance workflows.

TEKTELIC implemented a LoRaWAN®-based solution using their KONA Gateways and over 600 COMFORT Leak Detection Sensors. This system provided real-time monitoring and early alerts, which prevented three major flooding incidents in the first year alone. The results included substantial cost savings on water damage, increased operational efficiency, and the establishment of a scalable IoT infrastructure. The project's success led to a tenfold expansion of the deployment.
