SaskTel extends LoRaWAN coverage 10–30 km with TEKTELIC

SaskTel, a telecommunications provider serving Saskatchewan for over 100 years, faced the challenge of helping local farmers adopt smart agriculture technologies. The key hurdles included the prohibitive cost of infrastructure, a lack of network coverage in rural areas, and the difficulty of managing data from hundreds of disparate devices without a single, consolidated view. To address this, SaskTel partnered with TEKTELIC to leverage LoRaWAN technology for remote data management and universal connectivity.

TEKTELIC implemented its KONA Enterprise and KONA Macro IoT gateways to provide a long-range, low-power, and cost-effective LoRaWAN network. This solution enabled farmers to monitor soil conditions, track livestock, and collect data from multiple sensors into a single pane of glass for simplified management. The outcome allows farmers to make more informed decisions, boost yields, maximize resource efficiency, and enjoy reliable connectivity across remote areas of up to 30 kilometers, all while reducing costs and simplifying operations.
