Ontex reduces incontinence checks with TEKTELIC's always-on KONA Micro gateways

Ontex, a Belgian personal hygiene company, faced the challenge of improving incontinence care for adults. The need for caregivers to repeatedly check absorbent products was inefficient, uncomfortable for residents, and could lead to health issues if changes were not timely. To address this, Ontex partnered with vendor TEKTELIC to develop their Orizon Smart continence management system.

The solution implemented used TEKTELIC's KONA Micro IoT gateways to create a stable LoRaWAN network. This network enabled Ontex's Orizon clip-on devices to instantly transmit data on product saturation to a mobile app, alerting caregivers precisely when a change was needed. The results included improved resident dignity and comfort, a significant reduction in unnecessary checks and product usage, and cost savings for care facilities by preventing laundry changes and infections. TEKTELIC's technology provided reliable connectivity with battery backup, ensuring the system operated without disruption.
