Lion Brand Yarn Keeps Tabs on Its Sample Inventory

Lion Brand Yarn Company, the oldest American yarn brand, needed a better way to manage and locate more than 800 sample garments, projects, and craft items used for retailer support, sales calls, catalogs, trade shows, and magazine articles. Its manual logging system made it hard to tell whether items were available, where they were, or how they were being used, so the company turned to TEKLYNX and its BACKTRACK asset and inventory tracking software.

TEKLYNX, working with Data Support Inc., implemented BACKTRACK on existing Windows NT PCs with barcode labels, handheld scanners, and database links to Word and Excel files. The system let staff search by yarn, color, designer, skill level, or item number, track check-ins and check-outs, attach photos and notes, and print reports, greatly improving efficiency and accuracy while helping Lion Brand respond faster and support sales.
