A Tegrity Case Study
Saint Michael’s College, a Catholic residential liberal arts college in Vermont, needed a reliable in-class video solution to support faculty who were already experimenting with camcorders and Media Services. Instructional staff faced concerns from some instructors that recorded lectures might reduce attendance, and the college also wanted a lecture capture system to support business continuity and emergency preparedness (for example, in a pandemic or campus disruption).
The college selected Tegrity and completed its first semester with the system in December 2010. Faculty adoption grew quickly—22 instructors were using Tegrity with nearly 300 recordings in November and another 194 in December—and students used short recorded segments (average viewing ~10 minutes) to review and prepare for class. Attendance did not decline, instructors found the system easy to set up, the platform helped a hospitalized student keep up, and early signs include improved engagement and some score increases; the college aims for 75% faculty adoption within three years.
