A Tegrity Case Study
Athens State University, Alabama’s oldest higher-education institution, serves about 3,600 mostly nontraditional juniors and seniors—the average student is 29, many work full time or have families, and nearly half take all classes online. The university needed a way to ensure online and in-person students received equal-quality instruction, improve access and study efficiency, and support accreditation while accommodating busy, mobile learners.
Since 2005 Athens has used Tegrity’s lecture-capture platform in more than 300 classes to record, index and share lectures (including mobile access, bookmarking and faculty webcasting). The tool made study time more efficient and boosted engagement—students who watched two recorded sessions averaged 84.8 on a midterm (vs. 74.1 with no viewing), and those who watched all three averaged 87.5—while increasing faculty confidence in online teaching and supporting the university’s mission.
