A Tegrity Case Study
Calhoun Community College, Alabama’s largest two-year college serving more than 9,000 students, faced a retention and access challenge: its average student is a 30-year-old working parent and the fastest-growing cohort is ESL learners, both groups needing flexible, on-demand ways to review course material and keep up with coursework. The college sought a solution to boost retention, improve academic performance, and make overloaded programs accessible to more qualified students.
Calhoun deployed Tegrity’s automated class-capture service campus-wide, which records and indexes lectures (screen content and audio), integrates with cameras and tablet PCs, and makes sessions available on demand across devices. Since campus-wide adoption in 2006 students have logged 26,000 viewing hours; 40 faculty use it in 45 classrooms, 87% of nursing students report regular use and 90% find it beneficial. The program improved study efficiency, supported off-campus and working students, and contributed to higher retention and student satisfaction.
