From Disaster Recovery to Growth: Delgado Community College Serves Online and Traditional Students with Class Replay

Delgado Community College, one of the largest institutions in metropolitan New Orleans, had its five campuses and most of its student body displaced by Hurricane Katrina, forcing an eight-week shutdown and an urgent need to continue the semester remotely while supporting rapid expansion of distance learning and improving student outcomes.

Delgado adopted Tegrity’s lecture-capture service (integrated with Blackboard) to record and replay classes, enabling quick online delivery and easy adoption by faculty and students. Within days Delgado restored roughly 60% of pre‑Katrina enrollment, grew online offerings from about 67 sections to 400, now has over 30% of students using Tegrity in online/hybrid courses, and faculty report roughly 10% higher grades.
