St. Paul Public Housing Agency Opens the Door to Virtualization-Optimized Storage with Hybrid Solution from Tegile Systems and Clear North Technologies

St. Paul Public Housing Agency was struggling with slowdowns and storage performance issues after consolidating enterprise applications and virtual desktop images onto an aging SAN. With help from Tegile and its partner Clear North Technologies, the agency looked for a virtualization-ready storage upgrade that could fit its existing VMware environment and support SQL Server, Exchange, and VDI workloads.

Tegile implemented a hybrid HA2100 array with 8Gb Fibre Channel connectivity, flash caching, and inline deduplication/compression to replace the old tiered storage. The results were immediate: performance issues were eliminated, VDI boot times dropped from 3–4 minutes to 45 seconds or less, SQL backup windows were cut by 80%, and data usage fell from 5.08TB to 2.8TB. St. Paul Public Housing Agency also reduced power and rack-space usage while gaining a more stable, high-availability storage platform from Tegile.
