Case Study: MiraCosta College achieves flexible learning access with Tegile

MiraCosta College deploys virtualization technology to expand access to learning

MiraCosta College, a community college in Oceanside, California, needed to expand students’ mobile access to classroom resources while easing heavy demand on its computer labs. To address this challenge, it worked with Tegile and Cisco on a virtualization initiative, using VDI and storage support to help deliver more flexible access to academic tools for on-campus, at-home, and mobile users.

Tegile helped support the solution with a metadata-accelerated hybrid storage system for the virtual desktop environment, while MiraCosta College also virtualized servers and improved wireless infrastructure. The results included virtualizing close to 95 percent of campus servers, cutting seven racks down to half a rack, virtualizing the primary computer lab, and enabling more flexible learning access for students.
