Barnsley College Modernizes Virtual IT on Tegile Storage

Barnsley College, a further education institution serving more than 9,000 students, was struggling with exploding storage demands and performance issues on its aging IBM infrastructure. The college also needed stronger data protection and a storage platform that could lower document management licensing costs, so it turned to Tegile Intelligent Flash Arrays.

Tegile implemented its Intelligent Flash Arrays to boost performance, improve backup and restore capabilities, and deliver built-in de-duplication and compression. The results were immediate: log-on times dropped from 3.5 minutes to 30 seconds, document storage shrank by 70%, and VMware utilization rose to 92%. Barnsley College also gained instantaneous file backups, faster restores, and enough storage efficiency to delay new storage purchases for five to six years, saving up to £40,000 a year in total cost of ownership.
