Wellstar Health System's Journey of Continuous Supply Chain Improvement

Wellstar Health System, one of Georgia’s largest integrated healthcare providers with 10 hospitals and 24,000 team members, was struggling to support rapid growth and post‑pandemic supply challenges using largely manual warehouse processes. The organization needed to improve fill rates, reduce waste and lower operating costs across its consolidated service center while rebuilding team culture and customer confidence.

Under Executive Director Adam Flood, Wellstar deployed Tecsys’ Elite WMS/SCM integrated with Workday and layered in automation (AIDC, conveyors, an inbound receiving module and dual two‑story pick modules), process redesign, inventory controls and real‑time dashboards. The changes drove major gains: picking and packing productivity up 220% (lines per hour from 25 to 80, +2,100 lines/day), a 99% stock fill rate, 35% faster order grouping and a ~30% reduction in cost per pick (from $2.75 to under $2.00).
