A Tecsys Case Study
Munson Healthcare, a regional nonprofit health system with nine hospitals in Northern Michigan, faced time-consuming manual processes in its Munson Medical Center Cath Lab: clinicians were transcribing supply usage across systems, visibility to point-of-use consumption was limited, expiry waste was high, and supply-chain and clinical systems were poorly integrated. The organization sought an intuitive, non‑intrusive solution to capture charges and item-level traceability at the point of use while freeing clinicians to focus on patient care.
Munson implemented Tecsys’ Elite™ Healthcare POU, using RFID and barcode capture integrated with the EMR and billing systems to automate case consumption, patient charging and replenishment. The result: a 25% increase in charges captured on the same procedure volume, elimination of more than $250K per year in expired inventory, removal of an average $400K per month in supply-cost billing corrections, reduced manual entry, improved case costing and traceability, and higher clinician satisfaction.
