Baptist Health's Journey to Centralized Pharmacy Supply Chain Operations

Baptist Health, a Kentucky-based health system with eight hospitals and more than 450 points of care, faced a costly, fragmented pharmacy supply chain hindered by space limits, manual processes, inventory inefficiencies, 340B and pricing complexities, and mounting regulatory pressures. These constraints prevented scaling pharmacy services into ambulatory and specialty care and left the system vulnerable to rising drug costs, shortages and labor challenges.

To address this, Baptist Health is building a 102,000 sq ft Central Pharmacy Service Headquarters and implementing Tecsys’ cloud-based Elite™ platform on AWS to centralize procurement, preparation, storage, tracking and compliance across the enterprise. The integrated, automated solution delivers real-time inventory visibility, lot/expiry tracing and analytics, reduces waste and expiry, strengthens regulatory compliance, enhances purchasing power, and frees pharmacists from administrative tasks so they can focus on patient care — with progressive rollouts beginning June 2024.
