NASA SLS Flight Condition Analyses Time Reduced from Days to Hours

NASA needed a faster way to analyze aerodynamic data for the Space Launch System (SLS), where flight conditions range from launchpad operations to supersonic ascent. The challenge was handling extremely large unsteady CFD datasets, often more than 10 terabytes, using Tecplot 360 and PyTecplot.

Working with Tecplot, NASA implemented a new parallel data reduction toolbox for PyTecplot to process the simulations more efficiently. Tecplot’s solution cut postprocessing time by a factor of 12, reducing movie-generation workflows from days to hours and enabling analyses across a much wider range of flight conditions.
