Acuity Brands, a leading indoor and outdoor lighting provider, faced a major specification challenge for its Holophane division: nearly 500,000 highly configurable products across more than 2,000 product groups made it difficult for sales reps and customers to select the correct options, driving high return rates. To address this, Acuity Brands selected Technicon and its product configurator to provide a flexible, maintainable, browser-based solution.

Technicon implemented a step-by-step product configurator (with Autodesk Inventor ETO visualization) that validates component compatibility, generates 3D renderings that can be placed into photos, and reuses the same product rules for online and print catalogs. The solution delivered measurable impact: a 75% decrease in product returns, a 30–50% reduction in special orders, and shortened ship dates from 15–30 days to 10 days or less.
