Volkswagen cuts die machining rework by up to 10,000 euros with Tebis

Volkswagen AG's die manufacturing plant in Wolfsburg faced challenges with part surface quality, inefficient processes, high tool costs, and lengthy manual rework. To address these issues, they partnered with vendor Tebis to implement its CAD/CAM software and process solutions, aiming to standardize and digitize their operations.

The solution implemented by Tebis involved a comprehensive analysis of manufacturing processes, leading to standardization, template-based automated programming, and the integration of reverse engineering and morphing tools. This created an MES-controlled, multi-shift manufacturing process. The results for Volkswagen were significant, including a reduction in manual rework from 160 hours to nearly zero for some dies, a 50% reduction in machining time, and the elimination of costly corrections that previously reached up to €10,000 per oversight. Tebis enabled efficient, standardized die manufacturing across multiple global locations.
