Case Study: BMW Group achieves faster high-quality vehicle surface design with Tebis reverse engineering

A Tebis Case Study

Preview of the BMW Group Case Study

BMW Group Design, Tebis has developed reliable methods to combine form development by manual and virtual design as effectively as possible

The BMW Group faced the challenge of a time-intensive design process where creating high-quality CAD surfaces from physical clay models was slow, hindering fast-paced vehicle development. They partnered with vendor Tebis to improve the digitization and reverse engineering process using the Tebis software platform.

Tebis implemented new reverse engineering methods and software functions, developed in close cooperation with BMW. This solution dramatically reduced the time required to generate surfaces. For a medium-complexity vehicle exterior, the time for high-quality CAD design surfaces was halved from 100 hours to just 50 hours, with lower-quality engineering surfaces taking only 25 hours. This provided significant cost savings and ensured consistent, timely data was available throughout the form development process.
