How Teamwork powered the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019

Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 faced the huge challenge of planning and delivering an Olympic‑scale event with a 305‑person Local Organizing Committee, thousands of volunteers, and dozens of cross‑functional teams and stakeholders. The organizers needed a single, scalable and intuitive project management tool that could be adopted quickly across diverse users and replace clunky spreadsheets — so they chose Teamwork, implementing Teamwork Projects as their central planning platform.

Teamwork Projects was rolled out with minimal training, allowing teams to use List, Board or Gantt views and the mobile app for on‑the‑ground reporting and issue management. Teamwork became the core system that helped them deliver the Games in under two years (versus the typical five‑to‑seven year cycle), supporting 200 nations, 7,000+ athletes, 24 sports and 10 venues, reducing reliance on spreadsheets through self‑service reporting and enabling faster operational issue resolution with prompt vendor support from Teamwork.
