The University of Iowa ITS Help Desk supports roughly 50,000 students, faculty, staff, alumni and guests and employs 45–50 people (9 full‑time and 35–40 student workers) who have highly variable schedules. Faced with a cumbersome home‑grown availability tool and Excel‑based shift planning, the University of Iowa turned to TCP Software and its Humanity employee scheduling solution to simplify availability collection and shift management.
TCP Software implemented Humanity to give students personalized schedule views, notifications and calendar integration, supervisors filtered views by skill or shift type, and managers could accurately track weekly hours to enforce the 20‑hour student cap. The result, per University staff, is that “gathering availability is now easier than ever,” with faster schedule visibility, improved communications via Humanity’s message wall, and better compliance and oversight thanks to TCP Software’s platform.
