University Musical Society - Customer Case Study

University Musical Society (UMS), the University of Michigan’s long‑running performing arts presenter, struggled to manage complex, multi‑location schedules for five full‑time staff and 20+ student workers using spreadsheets and printed schedules. Covering up to nine night‑of ticket offices and 150+ monthly performance shifts made tracking time‑off, evolving performance times, and shift trades time‑consuming and error‑prone. To solve this, UMS turned to TCP Software’s Humanity online employee scheduling tool.

TCP Software implemented Humanity, giving UMS features like Future Availability, shift trades, dashboard messaging, color‑coded positions, location/position customization, and separate tracking of pre‑show and regular hours. The result: staff can view current schedules and trade shifts from mobile devices, communications are centralized, and a once week‑long scheduling task now takes less than two hours—saving substantial staff time while improving accuracy and accessibility.
