A TCP Software Case Study
The Rocky Mountain Rail Society is a volunteer non-profit dedicated to preserving and operating Canadian National steam locomotive 6060, with about 175 members and roughly 20 active volunteers who support events such as 12 planned steam trips. Their Volunteer Coordinator struggled with paper-based self-reporting and scheduling across Alberta and neighboring Saskatchewan, making it hard to assemble crews with the right skills, track certification hours, and document volunteer hours for matching grants. To address this they adopted the Humanity work scheduler from TCP Software.
TCP Software’s Humanity moved RMRS from paper logs to a web-based scheduling and accounting system, letting the coordinator schedule volunteers across locations while volunteers adjust shifts themselves, simplifying logistics for housing and feeding crews and improving tracking of hours for grants and certifications. As a result RMRS can better manage its ~20 active volunteers and 175-member base for planned operations (including 12 trips), with easier reporting, expected use of messaging/SMS/email notifications and file sharing, and responsive support from TCP Software.
