University of Southampton reduces generator noise by 10dB with TBG Solutions

The University of Southampton, a world-famous research facility, collaborated with TBG Solutions and Princess Yachts on the TranQuil project. The challenge was to develop a scalable and frequency-adaptable solution to cancel the intrusive noise and vibration from a yacht's secondary generator, which disturbed passengers during silent hours.

TBG Solutions implemented an active noise cancellation system using a Least Mean Square (LMS) algorithm. This solution, which uses actuators that move in anti-phase to the generator, successfully reduced cabin noise by 10dB. TBG Solutions delivered a highly reliable, state-of-the-art system that can be built into new boats or retrofitted onto existing ones.
