Alstom builds a safe 2.5kV, 2000A test system with TBG Solutions

The customer, Alstom, a major power generation and transmission company, faced the challenge of safely testing its high-power Voltage Source Converters (VSCs) up to 2.5kV and 2000A. Operator safety was of utmost importance due to the extreme dangers inherent in the process. TBG Solutions was tasked with providing a bespoke automated production test facility for these devices.

TBG Solutions developed a LabVIEW/TestStand PXI-based automated test system. The solution featured a specially designed test cell with stringent hardware and software safety interlocks to safeguard both the product and operators. The system successfully provided a high throughput, safe, and reliable test solution for this demanding high-tech requirement, enabling Alstom to test the equipment that supports close to 25% of the world's power production capacity.
