Whistler Resort Cabs, a new transportation provider in Whistler, BC, needed a modern way to handle a high volume of short trips in a busy ski-resort market. Traditional manual dispatch and expensive mobile data terminals were too costly and inefficient for their start-up budget, so they looked for a more affordable automated dispatch solution from Taxi Commander.

Taxi Commander implemented a computerized dispatch system using Motorola iDEN/Nextel-style phones as the mobile data device, later migrating to Android technology. The solution cut hardware costs, enabled fast reservations and dispatch, and improved reliability and coverage in the mountain region. The system ultimately automated more than three million trips, handled over 1,000 automatic dispatches in a single day during the first New Year’s Day, and reduced new trip entry to just 3–4 seconds.
