JUSCO brings innovation to the streets of Jamshedpur with Tata Communications’ Smart lighting IoT solution

Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company (JUSCO) Ltd., India’s only comprehensive urban infrastructure service provider, needed a smarter way to manage more than 16,000 street lights across Jamshedpur. To support its citywide command and control centre, JUSCO turned to Tata Communications for a cost-effective, scalable Smart lighting IoT solution that could improve energy efficiency, automate monitoring, and reduce manual maintenance effort.

Tata Communications implemented the Smart lighting IoT solution using an LPWAN network based on LoRa Technology, with smart sensors, a cloud-based IoT platform, and a web-based command centre application. The system enabled centralized control, automated scheduling, fault detection, geolocation-based theft prevention, and dynamic light intensity adjustment, delivering 27% power savings, an estimated ROI in three years, and lower annual costs of about INR 700 per light while improving service response and community safety.
