Case Study: EIRSAT-1 achieves reliable satellite GPS positioning with Taoglas antennas and cable assemblies

A Taoglas Case Study

Preview of the EIRSAT-1 Case Study

Taoglas is shooting for the stars in Ireland's first-ever satellite

The customer, EIRSAT-1 (Ireland's first satellite), required a robust GPS antenna and cabling solution capable of withstanding the extreme conditions of a space launch and orbital operation. The UCD team's challenge was to find a highly reliable, low-volume, and high-performance component for their shoebox-sized satellite to ensure accurate location data for its scientific payloads. They turned to vendor Taoglas for a solution.

Taoglas provided their DSGP.1575.25 GPS/GALILEO ceramic patch antenna and custom high-performance cable assemblies. The antenna's small form factor, multiple solder points for durability during launch, and high gain were ideal for the mission. The solution from Taoglas contributed directly to the success of the EIRSAT-1 mission, which launched in late 2023 and made Ireland an independent spacefaring nation.
