AutoNation Speedily Addresses Hygiene and Improves Endpoint Security

AutoNation, the largest automotive retailer in the U.S. with about 26,000 employees across 300+ locations, faced limited visibility into its environment and widespread endpoint hygiene problems. Hundreds of thousands of patches were missing (some dating to 2007), 91% of endpoints ran outdated Adobe Flash, many machines had broken SCCM agents, and patch and incident response processes were slow and inconsistent.

By deploying Tanium, AutoNation gained near-real-time visibility and orchestration, enabling a company-wide BitLocker update in 30 days, redeployment of SCCM agents, and rollout of new AV to ~20,000 machines in four days. The effort produced a first-pass patch success rate of over 99%, cut incident response from days to under an hour, and saved the company tens of thousands of dollars while improving overall endpoint security and operational efficiency.
