U.S. GSA Serves as a Role Model for the Federal Workplace

GSA set out to create a new federal workplace standard by consolidating six D.C.-area leases into one 800,000‑square‑foot building in response to a presidential mandate and the Telework Enhancement Act. To support a more distributed, mobile workforce and capture occupancy data, GSA implemented Tango Reserve by AgilQuest’s OnBoard Workplace Management System to enable smart building and smart occupancy strategies.

Tango Reserve by AgilQuest linked occupancy insights with building systems (HVAC, electricity, lights) to optimize space sharing and operations. The program delivered a 2:1 worker-to-workspace ratio (4,400 employees on 2,200 desks), nearly 50% savings in annual lease costs (~$24M), an additional $7–8M saved on shared services, a 50% reduction in energy and carbon consumption, 16 million kilowatts saved annually, and 16 metric tons of CO2 avoided.
