Stadtwerke München (SWM) is one of Germany’s largest utilities, serving more than 1.2 million customers with energy, water and public transport and employing about 9,700 people. To support company-wide analysis beyond SAP systems, SWM set out to build a BI platform and needed a scalable ETL solution to consolidate diverse sources and enable reliable data evaluation.

SWM selected Talend Data Integration (open-source/Eclipse-based with SAP access) to extract, transform and load data from SAP, web services, Excel and CSV files into the BI platform. Talend now automates user provisioning and permissions for 6,000 BI accounts (about 1,500 active users), extracts roughly 1 TB of SAP data weekly for quality checks, and triggers up to 1,000 nightly status reports—improving extraction performance and enabling ongoing BI expansion.
