Recycling waste to reduce its impact on the environment

Veolia Recyclage & Valorisation des Déchets (Veolia RVD), part of the global Veolia group with 71,000 employees and 637 treatment units, manages large-scale collection, sorting and recovery of household and industrial waste across France. Faced with fragmented, mostly in‑house IT systems and regional data silos during a cloud migration, the company needed a consolidated, decision‑supporting data warehouse, real‑time application integration and a common data repository to standardize and steer operations nationally.

Using Talend Data Integration, Talend Data Quality and Talend MDM, Veolia built a national data warehouse (1.5 TB, nightly updates), standardized waste categories (from 10,000 to 1,200), and created a single operational repository for materials, equipment, sites and services. The platform supports 3,000 users with customized reports and KPIs (e.g., plant availability >8,000 hours/year, truck turnaround ~5 runs/day), cut interface development time and cost threefold, and improved operational visibility and decision‑making across the business.
