Case Study: French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy achieves consolidated maritime data and improved maritime affairs management with Talend Data Integration

A Talend Case Study

Preview of the French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy Case Study

Monitoring maritime employment and vessel activity

The Directorate for Maritime Affairs (part of France’s DGITM) needed to modernize how it monitors seafarers, vessels and maritime activity. Its Sub‑Directorate for Maritime Information Systems was replacing a brittle COBOL extraction system and faced the challenge of consolidating highly dispersed information from 14 heterogeneous sources into a reliable BI platform to support statistics, regulatory monitoring and decision‑making.

Using Talend Data Integration the team built a Sybase IQ data warehouse with shared repositories for vessels, parties and seafarer activity, embedding quality checks, logging and automated alerts into data flows. Six data‑exchange interfaces (including web services) replaced legacy batches, feeds are published via a SpagoBI portal for about 1,000 users, and the Directorate gained faster processing, easier deployments, greater independence and sustainable, extendable analytics across its partner network.
